Look, a spree!
My VHS copy of the film gives the copyright date as 1985. Capital Equiment Leasing Limited. All Rights Reserved. So why is it listed as '86? I know nothing about the release dates, so I have to assume that the ones listed here are correct, but then, why does the box say '85?

In my city, it was released as an art house type film.

The movie would have been completed and the copyright paperwork completed in 1985. Most movie releases are timed, the big blockbusters for holidays and such, the smaller movies for the less-competitive in-between times. So it was probably held back for an opportune release time a few months after it was finished, and that time happened to be the following year. My guess, anyway.
