I just watched about 40 minutes of this movie, and had to turn it off. It's way too cheesy and over the top for my taste. It's too bad because the idea is cool, but the quality of this movie blows.

I have no problem watching this film from start to finish. The over-the-top vintage 1980's cheesiness is why I totally dig and enjoy this schlockoid flick.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Well, I remember taping it off cable when I was 16 and being horrified of the part where the boy got squashed by the steam roller thing. I didn't watch it much afterwards, and I always thought the actress playing the hitchhiker was kind of high off something. Oh well, I understand others see it as a awesome horror movie. Try finishing it all the way, it's up to you. Not all films are for everyone.

11 minutes? Try taking some ritalin next time before you start a movie. People's attention span in today's society is non-existent.

I only made it 11 minutes in. I'll have to retry when I'm in a different frame of mind. I realize (at least I hope to God) that King must have intentionally turned a great short story into the most over-the-top piece of schlock ever. What I don't know is why. It was such a chilling story. One of his best. He could have made it into a genuinely scary movie.

Its my favorite King movie. Its a typical classic for a B movie.

What scene did you switch it off after? I have this on DVD, it's a great movie. I enjoy watching it. I like the idea of it.

Did you watch it on TV or VHS because even though I realize it may not change your opinion, this movie looks beautiful in widescreen. The cheap Phase 4 films dvd which has a terrible cover and again (like Anchor Bay's) no extras actually has a great transfer. Some of the shot compositions in this film just blow me away and when I see people bash this film on this board I always get paranoid that it's still being seen cropped (no thanks to you IFC!). Like Robby stated, this is a film that seems to play bettter for a niche crowd. I always thought with Tarantino and the resurgence of '70's style drive-in tongue-in-cheek movies that nowadays more people would "get" Overdrive. Sadly, for many, it seems it ain't so. I understand that some may not like the film particularly but I always find it hard to believe that people HATE it since it really is one of the most fun films I have ever seen. To me MO is like a loud party going on. Some people are like "hell yes what's going on in here!" Some people roll their eyes and go back to their room to sleep. I'm not insinuating that anyone who doesn't like the film is adverse to fun or has no spirit but that seems to be the common reaction to the film. Either "god this is dumb" or "this is so crazy I gotta' go along for the ride!"
"I've seen things in this city that make Dante's Inferno read like Winnie The Pooh."

It was designed to be a B movie that only attracts a certain audience anyways.
