He's actually a decent actor NOW, but only in sitcoms where he has to carry a basic story and make people laugh at the same time. There's more to being in a sitcom than just being funny, and he does it well. But when it comes to drama like this, my lord he is terrible.

It's funny, in the 80s Sheen was known as being quite a brooding actor who did lots of serious roles - No Man's Land, Wall Street, The Boys Next Door, The Wraith, Eight Men Out and Lucas (as well as Platoon). That was actually the time when he got established and earned a lot of accolades for the quality of his acting. I actually think he did his best work in the 80s and being more dramatic suited him more than comedy did (although he was great at doing both). He did really well in Platoon playing the nave rich kid grunt who grows before our eyes.
Fwiw, I think two and a half men was a one note show that didn't portray Sheen as a great actor at all. It's weird when good actors who have such a great body of work in the past, end up getting more praise & success for doing really mediocre stuff later on in their career. Sheen was way funnier in Men At Work or Major League than he was in TAAHM.
Imdb message boards - kick someone's ass on the first day, or become someone's bitch.
