Does this happen in Tampopo? -
The man had three daughters, Chinese film and he cooked them this meal, it was like Like Water for Chocolate, and there is a fantastic scene where hes got this carp and he basically suspends the central nervous system by putting two chopsticks down his throat, forces the mouth open and poaches it really gently in this broth, he made this amazing dinner for them.

That doesn't happen in Tampopo. It might be the Ang Lee film, Eat Drink Man Woman, which I haven't seen but want to.
