Remember that he was very nonchalant and took his sweet time running to home plate after hitting that home run, to which the coach hyperactively said, "Cross the plate, Bundy!" when Al suddenly stopped running as soon as he was just a few inches away from "home." Why was the coach all antsy? What if a player hit a home run, but then suddenly had a heart attack while running?

Ouch. I never realized that baseball and track & field had something in common from that perspective. Does this also apply to little league baseball? I am referring to the movie "John Q" when John (Denzel's) son collapses at his baseball game. Unlike Al Bundy and the Mets player, the boy's team was not at bat. But, what if his heart attack occurred while he was running to home plate? They're just kids, so I highly doubt that the "must step on home plate" rule would apply here. Going off-topic, but… a senior at my high school, who was a gang member, was stabbed to death about a month before graduation. At the time, it was evident that he was headed for summer school, as his grades were not up to par. But his older brother accepted his diploma at the ceremony. I know that the deceased won't be able to undeservingly get a job and/or go to college, but it's the principle of the matter – he wasn't graduating, but his name was announced, and his diploma is proudly displayed in his family's home. Thus, the cruelty of a little league team not scoring the points because of the batter having a heart attack while running. Yes, it's an unfair comparison, but, food for thought?

If he touched 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on the way home but never crossed the plate it would count as a triple but no run.
In the playoffs a Mets player hit a grand slam to win the series against the Braves. All the guys on base ran home but the guy who hit the home run was caught in the crowd of celebrating teammates and never made it past first base. Officially it was only a single.
