this movie would have been so much better without anorexic Modine, and his god-awful narration. first off, he gets away with screwing with the Sergeant by being given a cool sounding nickname, and he has the mark of Cain in this movie, and never seems in danger. his performance is almost intentionally wooden, especially lines like, "I… want… to… stick… my… tube… steak… in… your… sister." he didn't fit the kind of main character in Kubrick films, and is an overall detriment to FMJ.

I have no problem with him here. When he did narration for some documentary about some exotic animal on TLC or somewhere I couldn't stand him.
He only got the roll in FMJ because his same initials turned sideways are 33…
