Near Dark was the better vampire film of 1987. Of course, it got overshadowed by the bigger and flashier The Lost Boys, a non-scary Hollywood "horror" film for the MTV generation complete with vampires that looked like Motley Crue rejects and a crap soundtrack that included a crap cover of a great Doors tune. While the film isn't "terrible" (as in Jaws 3
terrible
), it is a
terribly overpraised
and
terribly unoriginal
work of mediocrity that doesn't deserve the accolades it's received over the years.
Oh…but the Frog brothers were funny at least.

I agree with this. I say Hollywood needs a moratorium on remakes. There are plenty of good screenwriters out there with new material which is getting passed over for this tripe.
