I never really understood why they didn't do a re-edit of this movie. Sources say that Cryer claims that the film was unfinished and released anyway. Clearly the director sucked tremendously and Cannon didn't deserve to be in the same room with a Superman script. Donner goes back years later and does a re-edit with his lost scenes in Superman The Movie. Why can't they go and redo the flying scenes to make them look good? I do believe they could do a full re-edit of this film with what they have a make it enjoyable and convincing. Then put it out on DVD and BluRay. I gotta say. Whatever company did the flying scenes surely went out of business. because they sucked more than the greatest vacuum cleaner in the world.

Nope. You can re-edit this a million different ways and it's still going to be utter crap.

But at the same time they decided to do Star Trek 6 for a propper send off. So glad they did that.

Because of the film's poor reputation, it's unlikely Warner Bros. wants to invest money into improving the effects and releasing the full uncut version. Some of the scenes weren't all that necessary anyway, like the first Nuclear Man. And some scenes can't be saved, like Lacy alive is space.
William Shatner wanted to improve STAR TREK 5, but Paramount wasn't interested. Probably for the same basic reason.
