Just occurred to me.
Both were chosen for their iconic roles after famous actors turned down the role(and after producers realised it made sense to cast an unknown to 'become' the character as opposed to a famous actor playing the role and it becoming just another role in their resume)
9 years- 1962-71. 1978-87
Proclaimed they were done after 5 years 1962-67. 1978-83. before coming back 4 years later
Connery didn't shake off bond for a good 10-15 years of lesser known more obscure films before he became 'SeanConnery' the above the title movie star of The Untouchables, Last Crusade, Red October etc but Reeve didn't get the chance to do that as he was injured, so maybe Reeve would also have become 'Christopher Reeve' the big movie star in the late 90s/00s like Connery in the late 80s/90s (and may have gone back to Superman at some point like Connery did with Bond 12 years later)

I agree. Reeve wasn't playing Superman in
Somewhere in Time
, so you know there was more to him than just the cape. And you make a very good point: he didn't get the autumnal years to redefine his career like others have.
And the generation gap can add a whole other dimension to it. I wasn't around in the '60s And '70s, so I know Connery more for
Red October
and Indy than I do as OO7. Kids today might know Reeve from something more modern than the Superman of years past.
It's the kung pao! George likes his chicken spicy.
