This was the first male/male kiss I'd ever seen. As a kid I didn't really understand it (obviously). Watching it as an adult, it's just for a laugh.
They do attempt to work this into the plot. Hence the one scene when the younger detective comes back with lunch, and the other detective was clearly expecting a BK or McDs burger but instead got some elaborate gourmet dish instead. "I got that for you."
Not exactly saying that's "gay" but it's about as close as they got to it in the movie Maybe it was a sad attempt on the male bonding of cops Honestly, I think they could have done without these scenes in the movie, just because it wasn't built up enough it could have been done better. You the viewer are simply not invested enough in these characters to really care if they are gay or not
The bald bad guy was tied on top of the car (they HAD to have a hot red sports car in this movie because..?????) was either completely squicking out because of the kiss, or straining against the ropes.
