Am I the only one who realized what a ripoff of the NoES movies (particularly the 3rd) this flick is? The horribly burned evil character who stalks a heroine who is stuck in a hospital. A group of mentally unstable people who die in violently (like the Dream Warriors). The music that is way too similar to the score in the original Nightmare, the male doctor who ends up being very protective of the heroine. The allusion to DREAMS (not just the title but the little hallucinations the main character has) I did find that the movie was well directed and that and if I hadn't seen the Freddy movies so many times, I might have thought it was a pretty good movie. But I couldn't overlook the similarities.

Oh totally, what with the mental hospital, members of the group being killed, Jennifer Rubin, the fact that it was called "bad dreams", the burned "killer" etc.
And hey did anybody notice the brief cameo of Charles Fleischer? He was the doctor in the sleep clinic in the first NOES! : )

Irregardless, it's a pretty good film. It's probably will be the one that Jennifer Rubin is remembered for, unless she dives back into the game and starts getting involved in more film projects.

It's probably why they offered the part to Jennifer Rubin.
But, let's be fair, the eighties were known for having horror genre films that ripped off each other. It's what probably lead to the genre's close demise by the mid nineties.

Yeah, it is basically Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3- Part 2. It's ok in that so bad it's good kind of way, but it is slightly better than most of the cheesy 80s horror.

I agree, Bad Dreams has a lot of similarities to Dream Warriors. With Bad Dreams being released just one year after the Elm Street sequel I wouldn't be suprised if the director had been heavily influenced by it.

Well, forgive me for being 6 years old when this movie came out and not paying attention to the reviews made about it at the time. Besides, I wasn't asking the professional reviewers if they'd noticed. The point of this thread is to mention that I was distracted by the obvious similarities to Nightmare 3 and that prevented me from enjoying the movie as much as I would have if I hadn't seen it. No review will change that. So take the pointlessly sarcastic tone elsewhere. Thank you.

Thanks for the newsflash Tom Brokaw. Critics(and horror movie people) have talked about it for years. It's still a good late 80's horror film. Check out Esplatter or Arrowinthehead or any horror movie site for that fact.
