I found it refreshing when I saw Jim Carrey in this movie. This was before he became famous for comedy movies like Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Mask. It may have been before he was on the American sketch comedy show In Living Color. I'm not sure about that one. But in any event I liked seeing him play this dark, serious and ultimately short role. It makes me smile with admiration when actors and actresses known by me for comedy play a serious role. And I don't mean partly serious and partly comedic. I mean entirely serious.
