i've heard it all about this on a website and from my nephew and even after his convincing arguments which almost had me going his way i found something that proves him wrong which made me stay where i was at.
the problem is that no one had ever said it's a christmas movie until this cool, hip oh lets' be cool and ahead of the curve and different about this movie and call it a christmas movie you know it's just a trend a fad right? that it is not based in reality?
this is one of the ways i know it's not a a christmas movie bc if it really is a christmas movie then how come it was never called a chistmas movie until about 10 years ago?
it wasn't even marketed as a christmas movie when it first came out. not until the last few years has it ever been marketed as a christmas movie on it's video cover and only bc of the stupid people calming it a christmas movie this trend.
oh here's the distinction. so while i was going to say like black christmas it's not a christmas movie bc of course no one has ever called black christmas a christmas movie bc it's a horror movie so you can use the same qualification for this action movie; there is a better distinction and it is this: black christmas is called a christmas horror movie. so die hard is a christmas action movie but it's not a christmas movie.
so the furthest you're ever going to get me on this is me acknowledging die hard is a christmas action movie but it's not a christmas movie.
bc a christmas movie has to be easily identifiable as a christmas movie. it's always obviously known by even children. so me watching this when i was like 10 years old i neve thought of it as a christmas movie even though i noticed the christmas music and the christmas tree in the movie.
this is bc it's not a christmas movie and bc a christmas movie has to be clear with the motifs and setups of the importance of christmas to the plot and it isn't clear about the importance of christmas to the plot. also there isn't enough christmas objects to fully make this a christmas movie.

It's most definitely a Christmas movie. One of the key leitmotifs in Christmas movies are how the holiday season brings people together. John and Holly McClane are having problems with their marriage at the start of the film, but manage to resolve these problems and stay together at the end. This is part of a long time-honored tradition in Christmas movies.
For example, Ebenezer Scrooge's nephew Fred Holywell keeps inviting his uncle to his annual Christmas party which Scrooge keeps turning down year after year. However, the spirit of the holiday season ultimately prevails and Scrooge decides to attend Fred's Christmas party instead of skipping it like he used to. Of course, I'm talking about A Christmas Carol here.

Okay, Christmas is supposed to be about generosity and cheerfulness and the loving spirit. But the word black goes against all that and tarnishes everything most people love about the holidays.
If a movie embodies a spirit of the festive or celebratory holiday/season into its style and atmosphere, even if warping it, it becomes an integral part of the movie's ambience.
I don't think a movie has to traditionally celebrate the meaning of its context to be dismissed as not being a proper/conditioned representation.
I see BC as a horror movie first, but its using a theme as a crutch which is glaring in its 2 word title and therefore is a Xmas movie too. DH is the same, an action movie first and foremost which uses Xmas as a backdrop and uses these elements for creative style and humour.

I don't even know why somebody would care if other people think of "Black Christmas" as a Christmas movie. I've always thought of BC as a Christmas movie. The OP's mistake is in not comprehending the other word in the title of the movie, "black".
Okay, Christmas is supposed to be about generosity and cheerfulness and the loving spirit. But the word black goes against all that and tarnishes everything most people love about the holidays.
Part of what I love about this movie is that achieves the cozy atmosphere of Christmas like no other film I can think of. With the best Christmas tree ever. As much as I do like "A Christmas Story", I think "Black Christmas" has the superior Christmas atmosphere.
Now, if the movie were titled "White Christmas" or "Pink Christmas", I'd say the OP might have a point.

yeah i mean we have to have an in between section for movies that aren't classified as a christmas movie and aren't just an action movie bc they take place during christmas so there it is, i put it in a post also die hard is a christmas action movie.
in order for a movie to be a christmas movie you have to have enough chistmas things in it it has to have a person dressed as santa claus or main characters mentioning the word christmas as far as what they are doing for christmas that is a must actually also the movie has to have a lot of objects of christmas to make it look like a christmas movie.
this movie never did enough to make it look like a christmas movie or have the plot be enough about christmas.
also i don't consider gremlins a horror movie now that movie i consider a christmas movie. also i consider it a children's movie.
