This was one of my favorite movies growing up.
But I just re-watched it with my cynical adult eyes and found several things wrong with the movie.

Would a bear cub just leave its dead mother like that? Even if its mother is dead, wouldn't a bear cub's instincts tell it to stick to its mother no matter what? I'm not sure about this one so maybe it's okay.

An adult male would eat the bear cub, not care for it lovingly.

Tom would have been torn to shreds. In real life, Tom probably takes his chances jumping off the ledge rather than accept his fate as bear food.

The cougar wouldn't have swiped feebly at the bear cub like it did. It would have gone for the neck/jugular immediately, game over.

I have a hard time believing the dog owner would just allow his dogs to run free like that to get put in harms way vs. a deadly bear. Wouldn't he have more care and control over his prized hunting dogs?

Why didn't the adult male bear die from infection after being wounded from the gunshot?

Why didn't the mutilated horse (the one that survived, but was all bloody) die from infection? He was all bloody and in bad shape after the bear attack.
So I guess it's still one of my favorite movies just because I first saw it when I was a naive teenager. But I think that's who this movie appeals to, naive teenagers. It's too violent and has too much death for young children, but cynical adults would find it too "Disney."
LOL @ me tarnishing the memories of one of my favorite movies by my own doing. Just great.
Still, the cinematography is excellent and the scenery breathtaking. It is still well worth the viewing.
