It was a little hard to find this under the French title. I remember seeing this movie for the first time in a theatre. For a film with little dialog, it has a powerful impact on forgiveness of the human heart.

I last watched this film when it was released in 1988, which would have meant I was 6, it has since then held the title for my worst film ever, but I will track it down and watch it again because I fell I will appreciate it now, not as a bored 6 year old

Would have been a great movie, if it wasn't for all the anthropomorphic drivel.

Yeah, it was also really cool when he tripped on the shrooms
HAHAHA. i just watchied it for the first time in ten years. I have it on VHS but i kinda forgot it was in there, and recently my VHS player has been eating tapes left and right, and i mean EVERY TAPE YOU PUT IN THERE. it ate some good ones too (Star Wars episode IV, The Lost World: Jurassic Park)I didnt want it eaing my copy of "The Bear" And today i found the DVD in the discount bin at wal mart for $5.50 (It diserves way better than the discount bin) anyway i bought it, i just finished watching it a few hours ago, and i made so many jokes that i wouldn't have made when i was a child. so many memories. I made alot on the shrooms scene. "Theres Drug use in this film?" "God. he is MESSED UP!" I also made alot of jokes at the "Mating scene" such as "Sonnow you know why things didnt work out with me and your mom" (Following the assumption i had when i was 3 that the male bear was his dad. i know he isnt but it makes for good jokes along the way) This is an awsome peice of art. and one of the most overlooked films ever, but ya gotta love every minute of it.

I saw both The Bear and Quest For Fire in the theaters. I have been a Jean-Jacques Annaud fan ever since. If he is involved, I go see the movie.
To prove his great talent, I saw Enemy At The Gate and loved that movie too, and I did not even know that he was the director until after I had watch the entire movie. Always great when something like that happens because I did not watch the movie with any idea that the was involved.

I love this movie. It's just one of those treasures and something I can shamelessly recommend to anybody.
Have you guys seen Jean-Jacques Annaud's Quest for Fire? It is also a magnificient film (though a bit more adult-themed) about a small band of cavemen who are chosen to search for fire. Like the Bear, it also has very little dialogue (and most of it is unintelligible) and focuses a lot on the conflict between nature and mankind.

I also cried & I have this movie on vhs & dvd lol. My favorite part I think is when Bart confronts the guy on the mountain & growls in his face & then walks away. Another favorite is when the dogs are chasing them up the mountain & the cub goes into the cave & is shaking his little bear foot , that is so cute.
