I don't know. I'm a huge John Hughes fan. But, this movie is just
bizarre, in many places and uncomfortable. It leaves me with an icky
feeling all throughout. And trust me, I'm no stranger to films that
make you uncomfortable (I love Gummo, Kids, The Brown Bunny, Cecil B.
Demented and a lot of John Waters stuff) but yeah. I don't know. I
just do not like this movie at all. I've seen it about 5 times, and
each time, I try to give it a fair chance and maybe find something I
missed. But I don't know it's just bad, and leaves you uncomfortable
as a viewer.
What do you guys think?
For the record, I've seen TBC, Sixteen Candles,
Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off at least 100 times each
(probably TBC and Ferris the most) Some Kind Of Wonderful is
probably my favorite Hughes film (he wrote, but didn't direct) but
another quirky, but charming film is Career Opporunities (seen than
100+ times, too). when Hughes was on, he was on, but this film is
just ugh.
Kevin Bacon is great, but I dunno and Elizabeth McGovern is so beautiful, but again, these actors don't save the story, at all.
"Is this a shifter car? I cannot drive a shifter car. What the FK is going on!?"

It certainly has the worst music.

This is hardly Hughes' worst film, IMO.
In fact, I would say it's better than many. I hated The Breakfast Club and despised that pile of puke Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles was probably his best work.

I think the problem with this film is just that it makes one uncomfortable. It bothers me that two strangers get married and then hardly communicate (besides sex) through their first 4 years of marriage. If this is a typical relationship then I can see why so many people get divorced.
Be friends with your spouse. Get to know them before you get married.
