In Skinner's Sense of Snow, Skinner tries to bribe Nelson that there's hall monitor position coming up if Nelson doesn't do anything to Skinner or whatever, and then Nelson says "I spit on your monitors". I don't get it? Isn't a hall monitor a person? I feel sheepish posting this but I'm just not getting it.

"I spit on your monitors" is another way of saying he's rejecting Skinner's offer, he's offended by the offer, etc.
Then Skinner's reply ("I know; that's why the position's available") reveals that Nelson also literally spits on the students who are hall monitors.
