It's been at least renewed through Season 30, but that still only takes us to May 2019. Just symbolically it would be great to see them make it into the next decade. Also, just as a fan I'd love for it to last as long as possible and as long as the voice actors and writers want to do it. Yes, the 90s episodes are the real classics, but unlike most other fans, I love the 21st Century episodes too and never thought it jumped the shark. Maybe I'm biased being that it's one of my favorite shows I've grown up with, so when it finally ends, that'll feel like a part of my past is gone too.
There've been rumors of the show possibly "ending" soon since 1998 when I used to read the boards way back then, so that's nothing new.

^ Agreed. Even if lots of people think it jumped the shark, there's so many loyal fans who love it regardless, so it's very profitable. I'd love it to span 5 decades, plus wouldn't it be neat to have Homer and Marge be born in the 80s pretty soon? They'll be younger than the original Bart and Lisa soon!

I wonder if this show will have more than 30 seasons.

And 3) the enjoyment of fans. It is still an extremely popular show. They couldn't just run it for the sake of greed to make more money if people weren't actually watching it. If it wasn't getting good ratings it'd still get cancelled. However, it is still one of their highest rated shows. It ranked third for their network for ratings, behind Empire and X-Files (which was really more of a miniseries than a regular show for this season).

Intriguing. By going into 2020, the show would, technically, span 5 decades which would be quite historical. However, the show seems to be on the air now for two main reasons: 1) Greed, since it makes Fox and the voice actors more money than they'll ever know what to do with and 2) The ability to say it ran x-number of seasons or episodes. In my mind, it should have gone off close to 10 years ago.
