When Indy is fighting Vogel on top of the tank, he rolls off the side and grabs on to the side cannon. Vogel then hits Indy's hands with a shovel, causing him to let go, only to find his leather strap is wrapped around the cannon. My question is, how the hell did his strap get wrapped around that cannon? If you watch the scene, there is no logical way that happened. Even more bothersome, is when he is shown climbing back up, he doesn't unwrap the strap, even though he is clearly still tied around the cannon. I know it's a movie, and mistakes can always be found, but this comes off more as lazy writing to me. Oh well, I'm probably just being whiny. It's a great movie regardless.

Also, he could easily just slide out of the strap.

Especially considering the barrel of the cannon was burst and flaring outwards. And why was he tugging at the strap, as if that was going to free him? He could have simply let the satchel go, because it would require some effort to stay
in
that strap. It wasn't strapped to him, after all, but simply slung around his shoulder.
And notice the bird poop on the brim of his hat in that scene?

I have no explanation, and you are 100% correct.
There is no way for him to get that strap stuck around the cannon by falling the way he does, and when stuck there is no way for him to just suddenly become unstuck while climbing up.
Lazy writing.

Yeah, it doesn't make any physical sense for the strap to work that way.
