My take is that for Meryl Streep, dramatic roles come easily and naturally. No one in the history of cinema has done them better. But comedy does not come naturally for her. She has no feel for it, and you can sense that she is "trying to be funny." It's perhaps no surprise she's done little comedy since She-Devil.

This is the movie i hold up to anyone who raves about how incredible
Streep's career has been. Well, this and Death Becomes Her.
Both of them were kind of duds.
Though i do remember feeling like Meryl was attractive in this.
"Tide's up. Time to stay alive."

If you like her in this you'll love her in Death Becomes Her. One of my favorite movies. I think the over-exaggeration is the point, that's what the character and the movie requires. She's not acting melodramatically because she's a bad actress, she's an amazing actress pulling of melodrama to perfection.

She is overrated, and this proves it. I literally felt a bit embarrassed when she exaggerated.
And what a random choice for someone who is supposed to be a very attractive, very snobby, very shallow person
When you think of that, someone who is more of a conventional beauty comes to mind.
