Tennison calls Moyra George's common law wife.
Contrary to wide spread belief such a status has never exited in English law. A mistake that a civilian might make but unlikely in a seeing police officer.
Following on from that Tennison also says that based on that relationship Moyra couldn't be compelled to testify against George. But even if she were his wife legally that is privilege of spousal communication was removed from English law in 1984.
The two together make for a goof.
