We learn later from "Prime Suspect: The Scent of Darkness" that George Marlow's mother used to be given the above scent as a gift from her lover Frederick with whom she used to have adulterous sex with on the Pier.
I would like other people's opinions as to WHY exactly George Marlow sprayed his 6 victims with the above scent before, during or after torturing/murdering them.

Because they were prostitutes. Since he mother wore the scent and committed adultery, he considered her a prostitute. He murdered the prostitutes as substitutes for his mother, spraying them with her scent for that reason.
It was love/hate, transferring the conflicting emotions towards his mother to the prostitutes.
