Would he have had enough time to try this?
It obviously sucked for him that she knocked the drugged wine glass over.
But now that he could move around the house when she was gone, couldn't he have went and stolen more drugs again (not too many to avoid suspicion) along with storing the ones she was giving him? Then wait a little while for another "groundbreaking" development in his story and ask her if she would do the honor of having dinner again to celebrate the occasion.
Then, do the same thing he tried the first time, making sure he asks her to leave the room again to get something. Just make sure it's not a candle. lol

I wondered the same thing. As many times as I have seen this I've never thought she knew it. It was an accident. She was all overwhelmed with their "date". It was a fantasy come true for her. She was giddy as they say. Like a young girl on her first date.

When Annie was out of the room,
Paul can clearly be heard putting the powder into the wine and mixing it together
. Annie was not an idiot.
He didn't make any noise doing that. What on earth gives you that impression?

''She knew that Paul was trying to drug her. However, she did not want to end her dinner with her favorite author, so she acted as if spilling the wine was an accident. When Annie was out of the room, Paul can clearly be heard putting the powder into the wine and mixing it together. Annie was not an idiot.''
this is possible but we never know this for sure.

I kind of thought the same thing but when she came in with that gun I think it made him realize he didn't have that much time.
That said, she wasn't going to kill him before that book was done, so he would've had some time. He also knew how to get out of him room and grab like an entire packet of pills. I guess maybe he thought as much as she was getting pills she might've noticed more than usual missing.

Probably, but after she came into the room giving her "rain speech" he realizes she could kill him at anytime, the book goes into more detail about how Paul feels how he doesn't have much time left.
I guess it didn't matter anyway since she found his "key" and sure as beep wasn't going to let him go roaming around the house and probably even making sure he isn't cheeking his painkillers.
