Not sure why but I was just thinking about this show this morning and I realized that they missed some opportunities. It's stated that The Lambert kids lost their mom and yet they never had an episode where one of the kids was missing her or reminded of her. They could've had something for Mother's Day or her birthday coming up. In the same vein, the Foster kids' parents were divorced (and yes, I know how strange that sentence looks), and yet they never said anything about the dad (whether or not the dad had visitation or whatever). They could've easily done something with maybe the dad promising a weekend with Mark and then reneging. Or, if they didn't want to go that route, they could've said that he lived out of state. Just my thoughts.
I don't think

I guess that the writers simply had no interest in doing much about the former spouses, except for making clear that both Frank's ex-wife and Carole's ex-husband were rotten. I agree though that it's weird that none of the kids ever seems to miss their disappeared parent.
Intelligence and purity.
