Unironically I think Neeson and Carrey would fit well. Carrey played a deranged psycho in The Cable Guy, and Neeson had a sort of villainous role in Dark Man where he could be pretty scary.

I agree w/Osterejen about Tom Cruise, especially since "Collateral." That would be very interesting to see.

I actually think tom cruise, robin williams and perhaps even jim carrey could pull it off.. They all can have this maniac presence, and would be believable if done correctly

A really good actor can play every role

Robin Williams Has demonstrated at times that he has serious acting talent, even when playing a "dead serious" role quite the opposite of his usual comic roles. For instance, I recall him playing an enraged bereaved husband (or was that a bereaved father whose daughter was killed? foggy memory here) on some TV show or another. I didn't see Mork, I saw the character he was playing
He also played a creepy stalker in Insomnia and 24 hour photo.
Someone mentioned Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steven Seagal. I disagree very strongly asd both those guys are badasses.
I noticed at least 90% of the examples given on this thread are comic actors.

I would, respectfully, disagree a bit with the poster who selected Ernie Borgnine. Borgnine was a lot better actor and could play sinister quite well. He couldn't have pulled off the sexual innuendo that DeNiro had going on with his character, most likely. But as far as being a scary mofo who could terrorize an entire family - Oh heck yeah!
