(Spoilers abound) Alright, OP, the way that Cady got into the house (As I personally always understood) was that he simply opened a window or door to the house as slowly and minimally as possible and slunk in. Remember how the teddy bear with all the strings attached actually moved a tiny little bit, that meant that a door or window actually did open, IE Cady sneaking in. Kersik went to investigate the second he saw the bear move and was simply thrown off guard because he thought it was just the housekeeper that caused it, little dreaming that Cady had broken in, killed the housekeeper and dressed up in her clothes in order to fool Kersik from behind. How Cady killed the maid and got into her clothes so fast is truly a matter of dreaded movie logic but that's my two cents on the fundamental question posed here.
