Gotta disagree. I found Freddy's Revenge to be my favorite of the sequels. It dares to do something different, and as others have said, Freddy is far more menacing than cartoonish.
So many stories, so little time.

Well I think both films are extremely underrated and I love them both.
I agree Freddy's Dead:The Final Nightmare is a better overall film but Freddy's Revenge is also pretty damn good in itself.
Freddy's Revenge has a darker mood and feel,a deep premises, & does a lot of cool scary tricks.
Freddy's Dead seems to be a little bit more ambitious stylish & has stronger characters.
I like that both films fit within the universe of the original Nightmare on Elm Street series 1-6 & FVJ but serve as their own off stories than in the confines of jumping off one films to another films continuity.To me Dream Warriors was a prelude to the Alice story as seen 4 & 5 and Part 1 servers as a prelude to The Dream Warriors story.
Freddy's Revenge fits right in between Part 1's narrative & Part 3's as Jesse's possession story and how he's dealing with Freddy before the events of 3.Freddy's Dead works as a nice universe builder for FVJ's story to work in contrast to Part 5's plot.

I ultimately agree. 'Dead' is easily more logical and thorough - from a story perspective - than 'Revenge.' The problem with this movie was that it went overboard with, and pandered to, its creative choices. The problem with Revenge was that it was produced with a first draft and a incomplete story.

Freddy's Revenge makes little sense and basically is about nothing. This movie went too campy but it has a better plot and more logic than part 2 ever did.

I thought Freddys Revenge was actually better: loved the darker tone of that one, and Freddy was still a pretty menacing figure. Freddys Dead was great as well though; loved the over the top nature of this installment, and the ending was pretty awesome. Both are vastly underrated

I disagree I liked part 2s uniqueness and Freddy's makeup was terrible in this movie, in part 2 it was probably the best and scariest looking makeup of the series, plus Freddy was still scary in part 2, here he was just a wisecracking joker.
Although this movie does fall into the so bad it's good category for me.

Yeah I agree with what you said. Everything about Nightmare 6 just seems off. I can forgive Nightmare 2 (to a point) because the "rules" really weren't firmly established until the third film.
Freddy's Dead has some cool stuff regarding Freddy's past and the death of Carlos is actually pretty f-ed up but everything else about this film is a waste. They should have focused less on the current celebrity and pop culture at the time (like Roseanne Barr and Twin Peaks) and more on the actual Nightmare franchise history.
I mean Freddy's Revenge and Freddy's Dead are the two worst in the series but at least Revenge can argue that they were still going through the growing pains of the franchise. The writer and director of Dead have no excuse. Dead was just far too silly and the Dream Demons stuff came out of nowhere and were just tacked on as an excuse for Freddy to be "really dead" this time. His deaths in 3, 4, and 5 all seemed more "final" than this lame crap he got In this one. The Dream Demons being made up as an excuse to take Freddy's power away is just lazy writing. Like why did they decide to abandon Freddy after his death in this movie instead of after his Nightmare 3, 4, or 5 death?
I can stomach Nightmare 1-5 without much problem (actually I enjoy all five of them) but this film just sucks. Every time I do a Freddy marathon I dread when part six just seems to get closer and closer. Even the remake is better than this film.

I don't know. It had a bigger budget so it was better produced, and it has a more thought-out s/l than Freddy's Revenge for sure, but the dialogue and direction arguably aren't any better. Dead totally lacks suspense and overt darkness, which is one of the areas where Revenge actually thrived.
