Yes, in delivering another one of his decidedly understated and finely-nuanced performaces as Sal-the-cop in "Only the Lonely," Mr. Jim Belushi deserved, at least, serious consideration for the Best Supporting Actor Award of 1991, imo.
No matter how many times Mr. Belushi portrays the same bumptious character ("About Last Night, "K-9," etc.), he always mamages to bring some new dimension to his trademark loud-mouthed lout act. I venture to say, even if there hadn't been a John Belushi, we'd still be marvelling at the younger Mr. Belushi's considerable acting range today.
I just don't understand how the acerbic David Lettermann can keep making jokes about Mr. Belushi, specifically, about why Mr. Belushi keeps getting gigs as the the "star" of kitschy and forgettable tevelvision shows?

I totally agree. Thank god John died and allowed Jim to step out from his shadow!

I am not a huge Jim Belushi fan, but I was re-watching this movie the other night and thought this is one of his better roles in a film. I think this movie, overall, is underrated.
