Firstly, I loved this movie. It was just superb work from everyone involved.
I am wondering though, who
was
the judge? Was he successfully assassinated?
He wasn't just "some judge" described by Jude as the superior IRA officer went out to throw his life away in order to try to kill him.
The film showed the judge get shot (I think) but it might not be mortal.
Also what kind of sentence did Jimmy/Fergus get?
He eliminated another IRA high rank who tried to kill him in self defense (although it was Dil who shot her).
The same person who conspired to assassinate an important judge.
My estimate of his sentence was something like 7 years?
And he has to meet his visitors in a glass cell like none other inmates
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame

who was the judge?
We aren't told anything but I assume he was going to judge a trial of a high ranking IRA member
Was he successfully assassinated?
Again we don't know for sure but its likely hes dead, the bullets hit him in the chest, plus he was really old and had other health problems.
Also what kind of sentence did Jimmy/Fergus get?
He eliminated another IRA high rank who tried to kill him in self defense
A thorough investigation would have linked Fergus to his involvement with Jody as well as killing Jude. The self defense law would have been different in early 90s England than what it is today.
Its likely he got a life sentence for Jody as well as years for manslaughter for Jude.
