<p dir="auto">They don't bother to explain exactly where the magic potion came from.  If the movie were made today, they'd have a five minute scene explaining everything about where the potion came from, who made it, why it was made in the first place, what chemicals are in it, etc.<br />
Leaving it up for the viewer to speculate its origins is so much more interesting than some banal explanation.</p>

<p dir="auto">Yep totally agree, everything needs a back story nowadays. Had the movie been a box office smash we would get a full prequel now</p>

<p dir="auto">You know what? You're absolutely right! It makes the potion even more mysterious. I like that it has a sense of ambiguity to it. As you said, we can come up with our own explanations for it and not have it spoon fed to us.</p>
