His performance is grossly underrated in this film. He does an incredible job with an unlikeable and unsympathetic character.

He crushed it.
I don’t think it’s underrated though, this film is known to be one the greatest ensemble cast movies ever, with everyone on the absolute top of their game.
Interesting how Kiefer started his career playing ‘the heavy’ and then later on specialised in playing the good guy - all American hero Jack Bauer. It’s usually the other way around - you play champs then you get old and they throw you villain roles.
Cruise had a similar phenomenon. As a young man was a great dramatic actor working opposite Hoffman, Nicholson, Newman etc, then as an older actor turned into an action star and stunt man. He was about 60 jumping out of airplanes in his latest Mission Impossible

If he did a good job, how does that make it underrated? There is large cast of big names in this production. Kiefer was no more or no less any better than the rest. If he wasn't cast, another actor could have replaced him and would have done just as good of a job and no one would have known any different.
Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Yes, indeed. Kiefer can play a loathsome, creepy sociopath like few others. That VOICE

Private Santiago is dead and that is a tragedy. But he is dead because he had no code He is dead because he had no honour. And God was watching..
Agree. Kiefer was brilliant (as he almost always is)
