I'm only 15 minutes into it and already I'm thinking beep me the acting is terrible. I'm trying to give it a chance just to see Pinhead but I have to say I'm reaching for the stop button.

I always really enjoyed this one; its actually my second favorite after the original (loved the concept of Pinhead invading the real world and unleashing the terrors of the box on an unsuspecting city). Also, I think Joey was a great heroine (not as good as Kirsty, but definitely up there).
"Godspeed, Spider-Man!"

I think it had the potential to be the Star Wars of horror movies
I am not defending what happened to the series, but "the Star Wars of horror movies" doesn't sound any better. The first film introduced us to lustful people who were given more than they could ever have bargained for via a box that summons explorers of experience. The things we saw in the first film were born of Frank's own desires. It should have been different for different people. None of the sequels continued down this path. They all just piled on the stuff the studio thought people wantedskinless people, hooks and chains as signature weapons, etc. The original cast was smart enough to stop after seeing how uninteresting Hellbound turned out to be. Andrew Robinson was smart enough to read the script and say no after they wouldn't even pay him as much as he made the first time, LOL!
Sorry, but the mediocre sludge that the series became started with the first sequel.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Yea, I think it needs to be a delicate balance, but the humorless tone of all the other ones didn't necessarily help the franchise. I think it had the potential to be the Star Wars of horror movies, but was never allowed to fully materialize. They needed to introduce the antithesis of the cenobite -that would have taken the series to another level. Instead it melted away into mediocre sludge. The fact that characters becoming cenobites stopped after 4 is unforgivable. I have a feeling even Clive's proposed reboot will only continue with nails in the coffin of the franchise's true big budget potential.
