Ever since I first saw this movie in the theatre, the one part that always cracks me up is when Davis comes home for the first time to find Gwen there. There is one scene where he is walking from the kitchen to the living room and he trips over the couch, hits the floor and immediately stands up like nothing happened.
I notice that Goldie Hawn gives a little quick look off camera. I always wondered if that moment was scripted or not. I think Steve Martin was improvising.

Oh yes, never noticed that before but when you freeze the film she is clearly looking at some one and starting to smile. Good catch.

Watching it now, thank you!! I never noticed it before. These two work so seamlessly together! ?

Watching it now and just rewound that part. You are right, she does!

I'm glad you posted this, because I'd never notice it before. I agree; I think it he was improvising and she did a masterful job of not laughing and ruining the take. That just makes this movie even better. Don't you love watching two true professionals play off each other?

I remember an interview with them when the movie came out. The was an unscripted moment and he actually tripped (he wasn't improvising, he lost his balance and went with it).
That's classic. I thought it had been staged, as I remember reading years back that SM had some sort of gymnastic background. But all the better if it was just improvised, after a genuine slip.

Wow, yeah, I re-watched that scene and noticed the smirk as well. It's really hard to catch; you have to keep replaying the scene, as it's only on for a millisecond or so.

Now I can't stop looking at that scene and seeing her smirking at the camera.

I remember an interview with them when the movie came out. The was an unscripted moment and he actually tripped (he wasn't improvising, he lost his balance and went with it). And you're right when his feet bang the table, she turns around startled, and then looks back to the director who must have obviously been like "go with it, go with it," so she instantly just continues her speech. Great moment.

OMG, how awesome is this quick look? I did not notice it when I watched the movie a few minutes ago.

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm watching the movie on netflix and I just barely noticed that little look! That is absolutely hilarious! I think she is totally talented for just going with it, though. That would be so hard.
Walter: Hello, Katarina. Make anyone cry today? Kat: Sadly, no. But it's only 4:30.
