It kind of sucks that no one is really talking about this. I found this show's colossal failure fascinating. It was just such a perfect storm of bad decisions. I'd love to read something like "The War For Late Night" about what went wrong in detail. I'm sure most people just fob it off as a brief, absurd, embarrassing footnote in television history, but I'd like to hear more.

I don't know if there's enough material for a book, but I would like to read an in-depth article about it. Why didn't someone think to actually have, oh, I don't know, ONE mock show to see how Chevy was at interviewing guests. It's as though they thought that because he was irreverent, that automatically would translate into hilarity no matter what Chevy was actually being asked to do. It is mind-boggling that the show ever saw the light of day. And, like you, I do find it fascinating that such a miscalculation was made. If you combine the books, The Devil's Candy, and The Late Shift, you might have something that would do justice to this debacle.
