He really let himself go after the show ended. I remember reading somewhere that he gained a ton of weight after the show was cancelled because he thought it would prevent him from being typecast. It seems like such an absurd excuse and it seem more likely that he was just really lazy and addicted to fast food. Nobody seems to have heard anything from him in years, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he has diabetes or some other type of illness now as a result of his massive weight gain.

Its funny how belding was unchanged for the run of both shows, but packed on the lbs once it was cancled

This lasted far longer because unlike the original series they routinely replaced the kids with new actors. I’m fairly certain had it lasted one more season Mr. Belding and Screech would have come out of the closet as gay lovers, and there would have been the first Saturday morning hardcore sex scene.

Not really. I'm reviewing season seven right now and it's got to be one of the most god awful boring things I've ever watched. All the cast except Mr. Belding and Screech look like they're only there to collect a paycheck, and there's nothing even remotely interesting going on.

It was really only the first season that was seen as a bad copy of the original without any of the cartoon situations.
In season one there was the jock, the prep, and the nerd. They were basically the same characters with different names played by different actors.

1- Cheap to make
2- the cast kept changing so unlike Zack Morris and co, they didn't age and graduate
3- even though everyone hates it now and says it's just a inferior rip-off of the original, it must have had fairly decent viewing figures to stay on air for 7 years

its much better. actually Saved by the Bell: The New Class is my favorite show from the 90's

It must have been very cheap to produce, as Screech and Belding were probably the only actors making much money. Given the cast turnover, I suppose they had to focus on the relationship between those two

Because the showrunners were smart enough to know when to stop on the original series. The show was about Zach and his friends in high school. High school lasts four years, so the show lasted four years.
