WTF are you talking about? Hellraiser 3 was shot open-matte (1.33:1 fullscreen) and matted for theaters. It was made at the same time with almost the exact same crew as COTC 2, hence the same filming techniques (it's talked about the audio commentary on the Anchor Bay COTC 2 DVD). Seriously, if you're not going to do the homework, you really don't have a right to bitch.

Okay, few things here: Paramount actually owned and distributed Dimension films from 1992-1993, then Miramax picked up Dimension in 1994. This explains why the original US Hellraiser 3 DVD was put out by Paramount; even though it was the Dimension label, it was still technically a Paramount film. The same goes for COTC 2, except Paramount didn't give half a crap about it so it never got a DVD release in the US until Echo Bridge came along. It looks like all they did was transfer the LD print, but at least it's in its OAR and not force-matted like COTC 3.
Dimension Films is an independent label owned by the Weinstein brothers. It's been through several studios: Paramount, Miramax, and currently is working both on its own accord (the Weinstein Group) and in conjunction with MGM.
With H20, here's what happened - they direct transferred the Super35 print the film was shot on and left it open-matte. The film was matted to 2.35:1 for theaters and every subsequent release. I think Echo Bridge just didn't take the time to slap some black bars on it to matte it into 2.35:1 and released it open-matte either because they didn't realize it or they purposely wanted to show as much picture as possible. I hear they didn't bother to clean up the picture and there's some print anamolies, dust and dirt that show on it. Very sad. H20 is properly matted on the Alliance Canadian BluRay (and looks and sounds amazing). The same goes for Halloween 6. I'm still waiting on my H6/H20 combo BluRay to come in the mail since I ordered it for the actual street date of May 10th, but from what I've read I'm very happy I have the Alliance BluRay with the last three films of the original Halloween series.

Well, I haven't purchased any of their blu ray's yet, but I did stumble upon The Halloween: H20 blu ray at best buy, and it is in fact 1:78:1. Such a damn shame.
Are you talking about the hellraiser III dvd that was released by lion's gate a long time ago? Yeah, Echo Bridge's released is 4x3. It really doesn't make sense, I mean, they released Hellraiser III with an anamorphic transfer in 06? I believe paramount released that version though. How did paramount even get the rights to release a dimension owned film back then?

Have any of Echo Bridge's so-called BluRay's even been released yet? The street dates were all May 10th and beyond. The incorrect aspect ratios could have been typo's on Amazon's part, for all I know. The only BluRays Echo Bridge is putting out that are of any concern are COTC 3 and Halloween 6 & 7 (the latter two were already released on Canadian BluRay in their intended aspect ratios with MasterHD audio and look and sound amazing).
Also, if anyone actually prefers to have the picture trimmed on a movie, that's pretty sad. I'd prefer to see what was actually shot. If you simply "must" see it in FAKE widescreen, most DVD players are equiped with a zoom button (providing you're watching it on a 16x9 TV; or you can use the zoom feature on your TV). Or do you want super-imposed fake black bars on a 4x3 TV??
The only good release of Hellraiser 3 on DVD was Anchor Bay's UK release - the full, uncut version in 16x9 widescreen. We've never had that in the US. Is Echo Bridge's release really 4x3, or are you just going by info that may not have been given on the back cover? I've never bothered to look at that release as I have two adequate earlier releases (one of which is still in print and not hard to find in the US).

Even if Children of the Corn II was shot 4x3, what is Echo Bridge's excuse for hellraiser III? A movie that was shot in widescreen, given a widescreen release a few years back, and then release as full screen? Also, why do they release their blu ray's in only 1:78:1 when they weren't shot this way?

Alright, anyone complaining about Echo Bridge's release, listen up: COTC 2 was shot FULL FRAME (4x3) and matted (forced-perspective widescreen) for theaters!!! Therefor, what you're getting on the Echo Bridge DVD is the full picture - so quit bitching!! If you want a force-widescreen matted version, get the old Anchor Bay (PAL UK R2) release that contains both the full-frame and a pseudo "widescreen" version (oh, and that's the international version that has alternate title music by Daniel Licht and cuts Micah's transformation scene). What Echo Bridge released is how the movie was shot for American audiences. Part 3 was forced into widescreen because it's a rip from the old Dimension DVD - it was also shot full-frame. Seriously, before ripping a company (Echo Bridge) for their releases, one should really do their homework. Plus remember that Dimension Films is notorious for cranking out movies and not shooting them on the highest quality film stock (i.e. why COTC 2 always looks "fuzzy"). The single disc release is a decent addition to round out any US DVD collection, my main complaint would be no special features and the cover art sucks, but at least they kept the logo intact. On the triple-feature DVD, 2 and 3 are compressed on one side on a single-layer DVD, so the picture quality is pretty bad.

I bought the double feature of 2 and 3 for 5 bucks and 2 was full frame, it's also full frame on the single release but some people are saying it's widescreen on the triple feature. I find this hard to believe so can you confirm what the aspect ratio is fceurich?
