If Henry had remained an only child, would he have been such a psychopath? Or was it the presence of other siblings (esp. the boy, Richard), that set him off? He seriously seemed to mind that Richard got his rubber duck. Didnt Connie have it too?

Its interesting that throughout the whole movie, no one ever referred to the children as cousinsnot the parents, not the kids.

Its also seems to be significant that never do they mention when or how long ago the death of Richard happened. This has to be deliberate, but I wonder what effect it was meant to have.

Its also interesting that if he had succeeded with Connie, both would have been drowning deaths. Would Susan have started to put it together then?

I think Henrys murderous actions were increased once he had Mark there to cast blame on, which he didnt have or expect before Mark came to stay there.

Two strange things:
A) What parent would build a treehouse (in terrible condition) on basically the top of a telegraph pole? It was like two stories high!
B) Henrys shed looked like a serial killer's.didnt either of the parents ever go inside there?

I really disliked the voiceover at the end with Mark wondering about Susans choiceit seemed to me to undermine what had happened on the cliff. Did they just add that as a filler to wrap things up?
Last but not least: I sure hope they excavated that well!!! : >

I agree, Steve. First I thought it didn't matter in the context of the goings-on, but now I wonderif he wasn't a family member, would Susan still have chosen him? I doubt it.

About the cousin thing - maybe it came from a rewrite and no one noticed. Maybe Wallace was originally Mark's father's friend and they changed it to brother later, maybe even reshooting that funeral scene. I agree - they said friend a lot, but never aunt, uncle, or cousin - that's strange.

Hey do you also wonder what they might have found in the well if it was excavated? I know I do. Besides the ducky and the dog I mean of course. My guess is there might be other animals. You would see smaller animals like frogs and stuff(indicating he first started with the smaller animals)leading up to bigger things like squirrels then leading up to a few cats and dogs. No reason to believe that the dog killed in the movie was the first one he killed. He was excited to have someone else to join him in his animal torture adventures but was soon pissed that Mark did not share his psycho tendencies. Maybe this also set him off to want to murder his sister sooner than planned. He hated that Mark wanted to be friends with her. I believe he would eventually killed her no matter what but Mark being there set off jealousy to make him want to kill her sooner. Also to answer one of your questions I think Henry may have still been psychotic even if he had no siblings. Maybe it would have taken him longer to get around to killing people but he would probably still enjoy the thrill of killing animals and causing accidents. But when the time came where he wanted to kill for some reason he would do it. I believe that Henry was a sociopath and his jealously for his siblings was not normal. Normal kids feel jealous but they don't try to hurt and kill them.
The scary clown doll is hiding under my bed.
