How about a prequel with new actors playing John Gustafson and Max Goldman when they were younger? Whether it be about these characters in Elementary School, High School, or early 20s, Id still be interested in seeing it. Call it Grumpy Boys.
I know itd be difficult to re-cast Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. But if James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender could do such a terrific job playing young Professor X and Magneto (two characters already so well established and acted by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan) for the X-men series, then I believe anything is possible.

I'd pay to see that. Maybe how they met Johns wife and both kinda fell for her and then how Max met his wife. Be a cool movie.
