Saying is not the same as speaking though. We use the word 'say' for a lot of things that aren't making sounds with your mouth and most particularly the written word and the message it conveys, so it is perfectly correct to use the word 'said' if you're writing about something someone wrote Says refers to the act of getting a message across, not the medium with which it is delivered.

I'm paraphrasing, perhaps, but "He didn't 'say' it, he 'wrote' it." To this day, so many years after first seeing this, I scramble to change "said" to "wrote" when I've used the former erroneously when replying to an IMDb post, etc. I'm that afraid of the displeasure of Jed! (Being an obsessive sort of erstwhile English major enters into it, as well. Once I know a word usage is incorrect . . . But mainly, it's Baldwin.)
