I knew she was lying for one simple reason. "When he said I had the jimmy hat on extra tight". She didn't say "You know you didn't have a condom on." Or "You know it broke.".

Just finished watching it and it's the first time I ever considered she might have been lying.
In the scene towards the end where her "cousin" is leaving and getting ready to do the drive by on Cain the way she tries to stop him/comfort him was pretty off for "cousins"..she tried to embrace him hold him when he wouldn't give in to her pleas

Its not surprising she got pregnant. While Caine is of course equally responsible, Illena made her own mistake too. She should have used her own birth control as backup.

And just because she slept around doesn't mean she didn't genuinely think it was Caine's. As in he's the last guy she was with. It's how I saw it.
That being said I don't think it was made explicitly clear that she was lying. She was very convincing and her reaction didn't scream, "she's a liar!" I thought it made Caine look insensitive. Personally, I felt that down the line he could have had a change of heart about the child, but to many people it looks like he's bailing on his potential responsibility. I think they should have done something more definitive to show she was lying (like showing a false pregnancy test), or even better just come up with a different motive. It was weak the way it played out, but the film still works because of the powerful imagery of the ending.

Sharif actually says I hope u used a rubber because I know a few brothers that eased up into that…specifically saying she was a hoe. I think the scene where she went to talk her "cousin" out of doing something reckless and trying to give him a weird ass hug was meant to show shorty was on some other **** as well, but I could be reading too much into the 2nd part.

I remember that scene, but he doesn't name her nor does he specifically point out that she might claim pregnancy to cheat him out of money.
Sharif does say something like, "I know a few brothers who have been caught out like that". That could mean anything. I always assumed it meant an unwanted pregnancy.
The way the movie was shot it more makes it look like he knocked her up and is leaving town like so many lousy men before him. If they spent another minute or two elaborating on that or even have her say something that catches her out in a more obvious way then it would have made her a liar than it would have played better.

Makes sense now, that's why he didn't go for it, hum.

It seems as if most people missed the scene where Sharif told Caine he hoped he wore a condom because he knew several dudes that had been with Ilena. Yet Ilena told Caine that he was the only one she had been with. I think that was supposed to show that she was a liar.
I actually must have missed that scene. Well then it all makes sense now that she was lying. I mean I always thought like someone else mentioned that her pregnancy was iffy. I never thought she wasn't pregnant. I just thought if she was, it wasn't Caine's and that she was just pinning it on him for some odd reason.

Based on what we saw, I don't think there is enough evidence to say she was lying about it.

I never thought she was lying. The way they filmed the scene, she looks worried and down. She's in a robe, she doesn't have any lights on which adds to the "sad" effect of the scene.
I mean I guess they didn't want to make it over-the-top, like say the movie Friday when Cube's girl is accusing him of cheating when she's the one in bed with a guy next to her..but it seemed like the way the filmed the scene where Ilena calls Caine, that she's telling the truth.

In the scene where she tried to stop her cousin from "doing something crazy" she went to embrace/hug him in a way that made it seemed like he was her boyfriend or something. It was weird for like 2 seconds.

Remember she pleaded with her cousin to not retaliate right before the cousin goes after Caine.

That girl needs to get sent to the Middle East, tell her it's a free trip, just a pit stop at Sadi Arabia and leave her there, yep yep.

The fact that she goes right to her gangster cousin for retaliation shows her level of class. Those bullets killed a guy who wasn't even in a gang, and who dedicated his life to getting Caine's crew to stop banging, and they also came within an inch of killing a small child. That girl was trash.

I do kind of find her pregnancy iffy. What would be the point of getting Cain killed? How would she explained that to her child? "Oh, your father was killed by some guys I knew because he wouldn't claim you as a child." It would be very unsettling, so I don't think she had any intentions of getting him killed. She could have been lying, but they didn't give us enough reason as to why she would.
