Both violent hood films, both brilliant.

I prefer the Nihilism in Menace 2 Society. City of God tried to be too cutesy sometimes.

Hell no. City of God by far. This was a good movie but really has NOTHING on the masterpiece that is City of God.
Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life!

Loved both but I would have to go with City of God

City of God is better. I feel it has a much more substantial story.

I agree that they are equal. City of God I feel is very underrated by a lot of people though.

Good question.
I really don't think one is better than the other, rather equal.
The same story but taking place in different parts of the world. Both are poor people trying to get by, never being taught anything different than the struggles around them. They don't stand a chance.
I had friends grow up very poor and half of them are in prison, some on drugs, the others raising kids the same way they were raised. I feel bad for them because they never stood a chance.
