.but in this he was absolutely superb. Always had high hopes for this gentleman since i first saw silence of the lambs. unfortunately he has let me down on many an occasion with his poor role selection and the fact that he is always working, even if that means he appears in dreadful movies. this performance is one of the best i have had the pleasure to experience and he demonstrates excellent restraint and composure. should any actor have these 2 performances tucked under their belt, they would be able to possess a feeling of extreme pride. i just wish that his achievements such as these were not diluted by his over exposure and prescence in movies that are well below the standing of his excellent abilities, he often appears to be on autopilot with the inspiration switch dimmed right down. whay say you????

I respectfully disagree, kobbi. Sir Hopkins is a great actor.
Sorry to be a pedant but you should really say "Sir Anthony", not "Sir Hopkins", in the case of a knighthood it is the Christian name that is attached to the title. And yes, he is a great actor although he has appeared in many mediocre to bad movies. Great in Nixon, The Road to Wellville and Bram Stoker's Dracula.
These are the only words I have, I'm stuck with them, stuck in them

He was pretty good in Hearts in Atlantis and The World's Fastest Indian, didn't he even say that he thought The World's Fastest Indian was the best thing he ever did?
I also loved him in The Bounty, that was back before Silence of the Lambs and I think it's possibly his best performance, he was so delightfully evil, over the top yet at times masterfully restrained and a little sympathetic in his role as Captain William Bligh that the fact he was overlooked for an Oscar nomintion is a disgracce
Second chances are rare man, you shoud learn to take better advantage of em'

You could say that about any actor, how many turkeys was Brando in? Through the eighties due to a lack of fame he may have had to take roles that werent quite up to his standard but after Silence of the Lambs he was in some great movies. Howard's End, Shadowlands, The Remains of the Day, World's Fastest Indian and also the pre-Lecter Elephant Man all feature great performances by Hopkins. I'm sure there are plenty I havent seen as well.

Shadowlands he was phenomonal in, and he was even better here, but he was also brilliant in The Elephant Man. Beautiful film, and while I think John Hurt gave the performance of that film, Anthony was still great(as always)
