The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century<br />
by Houston Stewart Chamberlain, specifically chapter five. That's what prompts him to decide to evict the two Jewish maids. It's a particularly unscientific piece of rubbish that helped inspire the Nazis. The book was very influential and popular in its day. Darlington is portrayed as the same type of Germanophile as Chamberlain was in real life.</p>
