I missed at least the first 3rd of this film and will look out for it again to see the beginning. However, what did Mr.Stevens do for the last 20 years? I know they do not tell us when the lord of the house died but it seemed the house had been closed for quite some time. What was Mr. Stevenes doing for that time? Was he a babysitter for the entry mansion? Hopefully someone has the answer. I will hopefully be able to find out if there is any telling of it. Very curious .
