I'll have to double check my sources. It's entirely possible I read that in Stuart Lake, but it seems I read the same thing elsewhere.
And of course Stuart Lake is suspect, but next to Frank Waters, Lake's book is gospel.

Although Stuart Lake reported that the bystander, George Berry, died from the bullet that killed Morgan, I believe more recent books state that Lake was wrong about that, and that Berry lived.

Well the shot was fired from only about 10 feet away and so there shouldn't be that much spread.
