Gotta agree with the OP. I just rewatched that episode today and both Billy and Robin were terrible. The writers could've come up with something better than what they improvised.

For the record, it was an improvised opening. Friends staff heard of them being nearby for the set of Father's Day and asked them to do a cameo. But Matt LeBlanc's "so you're the gynaecologist?" was a genuine question cause the scene wasn't scripted or rehearsed. Only Monica's lines were scripted.

I completely agree with this one being the strangest. It's also got to be one of the worst. I respect them both, and may Robin rest in peace, but it was SO out of place! Neither of them even acknowledge the Friends, just randomly continue their conversation once they've plonked their backsides on the couch, and when Joey tries to interact with Billy Crystal, he shrugs Joey off. I think it's Joey who intervenes anyway - it's been a while since I watched that scene for obvious reasons.

When I first watched the episode, I never really got the whole hype of the Helen Hunt and her lady friend guest appearance.
I didn't even know who she was before I saw "Twister", lol (I was 11 at the time).
This was 2 years before that movie, so I was like: "Why are the audience going crazy?"
Then ofcourse, I realised afterward, they were playing characters from a sister sitcom they were in that linked Phoebe's twin sister Ursula.
I guess if you're not from the US, you'll be left in confusion with that episode.

I agree. I didn't find him funny either. People only laughed because he was Brad Pitt and he was good looking. If it was any other person acting out as his character, no one would care about it.

why the hate for his guest appearance though, aside from all that? i like Pitt as an actor and as for his actual role, it was funnier than him just being some date for one of the girls like a lot of the other male celeb guests

That was one of my favorite episodes! He was absolutely harsh and rude to Rachel, and it was hilarious. Then more and more secrets come out about their younger years that you wouldn't see coming. Loved it!
