Isn't Kim the blonde one who handcuffed Chandler to a cabinet and Rachel rescued him? I think that's why she disliked Rachel, but I could be wrong.

I always assumed they aired the episodes out of order

The obvious explanation, that can be used to explain most things, is that we don't see every little detail on screen of what happens in these people's lives. It's quite plausible that something happened off screen to make Kim dislike Rachel.
Besides which, a) I didn't think Kim particularly liked Rachel that much in the smoking episode, hence why she kept getting left out of discussions and b) I didn't think Kim particular hated her in the Ralph Lauren episodes, the only hint that she did was Rachel saying she did but Kim didn't seem particularly nasty to her.

UghI've always wondered about this too. I don't think any episodes or scenes are missing which would explain Kim's change. She seemed to really like Rachel in the beginning and then she just suddenly didn't.
I always chalked it up to the idea that many employees end up being disliked by their bosses at some point for various reasons. Like, it's pretty common for management not to get along with their subordinates, thus an actual reason for Kim hating Rachel wasn't needed. I don't knowthat's the best explanation I can think up!
