now I was just flipping through the channels one night several months ago, and I saw this movie and a big monster thingy was coming out of the ground. I think this big monster thing at one point grabbed a girl in its big.. tentacle things. was I seeing things, or did they use a barbie as a stunt double for that chick?

Ha ha I think the Barbie thing was used at the end of the original Nightmare on Elm Street. It was when the mother is being pulled through the door(by freddy presumably) when she is standing on the porch when Nancy and the kids get into the car. Clearly looks like they used a barbie or a full sized plastic mannequin.
The scary clown doll is hiding under my bed.

Did anyone else notice that at the end as they pan back to show you the burned up remains of the monster you can still clearly see two of the dolls they used lying on the ground?
It's so awful it's laughable to me.

Someone loaned me all of these films (I have got some really sad friends) and I am making my way through them slowly.
I thought this 3rd film was the worst and especially that bit at the end with the barbie doll. When I first saw the scene I thought was that a doll and had to keep rewinding to that point as it was an unbelievably bad effect.

Maria is definetly a barbie in that scene. Also at the point where it backs out full view where the supposed HWWBTR is holding the her up and is about to eat her her legs are looking like the action of a claymation Gumby figure. It's so sad. The sound effects sucked too! That ruined the film I think. That and the fact that it was pretty much taken out of Gatlin except for it's little mention about the newspaper that Eli is in. I love the films don't get me wrong but this one definetly could have used some work!

I've only seen the first three, and I must say they arnt films to watched as far as special effects go. He Who Walks Behind The Rose looked awsome to be honest, but as far as the effects go everything sucks. I was dissopointed with the fire balls, great awsome concept, but looks like crap. The only few effects I seen that I was really impressed by was the scare crow effect in the beggening of the movie and possibly the red cloud above the corn feild in the first one.

Yeah, at the end of the movie, the film team seems to have totally lost control over the special effects (which were quite good before the unnecessary monster appeared). A guy runs away from what looks like a monster on a drive-in movie screen! Suddenly you see him from behind, and it's just a little plastic toy! He's not even moving, as the monster hand grabs him! Then you see the stupid looking monster putting this toy in his mouth. All so cheap that I thought they were JOKING for a while.
When the monster dies, and the young people are getting back to "normal", you can see one girl just laughing! Even if she's supposed to look scared. She probably thought that this all was so silly, and wondered if the director was in a rush to finish this movie, as the end seemed to be made by a child!
The effects started really good, and ended up so badly I thought they were joking.
