I know the relationship between Mathilda and Leon had some questionable moments but in the previous versions I had seen of the film they were apparently cut down or reduced, when I saw a directors cut I opted for it as I would usually do for a film, but in all honesty I regret it. The extended scenes between them were uncomfortable enough to make me not want to watch it again. I would still recommend the Theatrical version though.

I definitely prefer the original American cut, or which ever one was on my special edition DVD from the early 2000s. The Director's Cut/Euro Cut I bought digital, so now I'm stuck with it in my library, kind of wish I wasn't though.

Director’s Cut is really European Cut.
Different Versions,
