This movie / theater play is obligatory shown on French television in Christmas time.
Just like Home Alone is the movie staple shown for Xmas time, too.
The French play differs from American movie version - it is more theatrical, more like a cabaret, and it as such it has the tragic ending (
they all die in gas explosion
).
Another thing - in French version the cake has the central place - whereas in this movie it was a side kick.
In French version the neighbor brings disgusting cookies and hands to everyone to eat and they all pretend it tastes ok.
The bad cookies are from Croatia - because the author of the play is from Osijek town.
Basically - since 1982 the French are laughing to Croatia each Christmas - and Croatians have no idea that this is happening in France.
